Brass [1983]

barbara ewing, caroline blakiston, comedy, emily morgan, gareth jones, geoffrey hinsliff, james saxon, robert reynolds, television, timothy west

this is simply splendid stuff from the 1980s, stuffed full of dreadful puns (e.g. "he were Mother's whistler"), with one of Agnes' most cherished possessions being Keir Hardie's cap. Some delicious satire too, not least Maurice with his boater and battered teddy bear stolen straight from Brideshead Revisited, and the titles lifted from Dallas ... hysterically funny, and highly recommended.  But the theme music will drive you *mad*.

Lovefilm review: Bradley Hardacre, owner of the Utterley brass factory and everything else in town, finds his rule of the town opposed by Agnes Fairchild. Unfortunately for Agnes, her husband, George, is the most loyal of the Hardacre workforce and romance is beginning to bloom between her sons and the Hardacre daughters...
