sneaking off

Despite having far too much work to do, we looked out the window this morning, and said “fukkit”, and took ourselves off to Slimbridge, as the Bewick swans are coming in.

We started in the café, with a slice each of a rather fine carrot cake, and a dish of tea, then ambled round in the autumn sunshine taking a lot of not all that good photos, but having a nice relaxing time nonetheless.

Home via the horror that is Makro, and we are now stocked up with 96 tines of catfud, which will probably last until Thursday, the rate they’re scoffing.

I should really do some work now, but I think I’ll just have the rest of the day off.

I have had an absolutely horrible day.

That is all.

weekend 3/4 nov 07

Many thanks to all for the birthday felicitations. I’m way too old to celebrate these things, but your good wishes were much appreciated.

Saturday started just fine and dandy, with a letter from the bank saying they’d bounced the mortgage (thanks, guys). This is because I forgot to remove the reference when I did the transfer from the business account to the personal account – both with the same bank, same branch – and so they held on to *our* money for an extra 48 hours; and have charged us £35 for the privilege. Sharp letter going their way today.

I spent most of Saturday rewriting a big wodge of code which was designed to run on ColdFusion 7 on Linux/Apache to work in ColdFusion 8 on IIS/Windows. And in a perverse way, I rather enjoyed it. That’s really rather worrying. In the evening we consumed a bottle of vintage Pelorus, and ate Boeuf Stroganoff, as I really didn’t feel like going out.

On Sunday, perlmonger wasn’t feeling too bright, so we had a lazy day, and slumped in front of the television watching “The Cassandra Crossing” in the afternoon – a load of enjoyable tosh, and better than you might expect. Last night we sallied forth to the Village Quiz for the first time in 3 months, due to other commitments – and we won! Go The Aliens! We put our prize of a tenner straight into the Poppy Pot – it seemed only right, as we were in the British Legion.

And now it’s Monday. Oh ghod …
