bah

From everyone, these are the top 106 books most often marked as “unread” by LibraryThing’s users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn’t finish, and strike through what you couldn’t stand. I’ve also underlined a few that I haven’t read, but that are on my current to-read list.

The numbers after each one are the number of LT users who used the tag of that book.
here they are

OK – I’ve cracked

It was very cold last night for September. It was very cold this morning, and the house felt .. damp, somehow. I’ve been cold all day, despite wearing a cardigan, and wooly feet – the wind is blowing the wrong way.

So that’s it – I’ve switched the boiler back to rads, and we shall be warm this evening. And bugger the expense.

weekend 22/23 sept 07

perlmonger and I had a pretty nice weekend. We spodded about on Saturday morning, before setting off for a trip to Bath.

Saturday

hello dear – did you get the things we needed? (an occasional series)

We sallied forth to the Eye Hospididdle this afternoon for perlmonger’s occasional checkup. No doubt he will tell you himself at some point, but they don’t want to see him any more unless he has another attack of something MSish, and they say his sight is improving steadily in the afflicted eye. Which is nice (this is an understatement).

The EH is convenient located smack in the middle of Broadmead, the main shopping area in Bristol; a place we never go if it can be avoided, because it is vile. However, we took the opportunity to purchase such exciting things as bath creme, and shower gel, and underpants for Pete (lets not go *there*, ok?), and some face flannels.

And four DVDS (The Queen, V for Vendetta, Goodfellas and Children of Men), two books* (Making Money, the new Discworld, and Double Vision by Tricia Sullivan). And a really nice moss green Per Una top from M&S.

Lunch was a nice steak pasty from the Specialist Pasty Shop, or whatever they’re called, which I shall now go and record on Photocena. And supper is sossidge, which is always good, followed by home made strawberry cheesecake.

*only 2 books? Well, yes – as I currently have 12 books on the actual, physical, to-read heap, and loads more marked in our database that I want to get to.

I have been elevated …

Last night I was elected Chairman of the Parish Plan Committee.

I suspect this may turn out to be a poisoned chalice …

home again

We have returned from a visit to the frozen East, to visit his Harryness. Well actually, it wasn’t frozen – the weather was gorgeous, and we hied ourselves up to Sheringham yesterday, to eat fish and chips, and ice cream, and buy crab meat for supper. Lovely day, and Harry saw the sea for the very first time!

He is growing apace, and a lovely sunny baby. We miss him lots, and wish he and his mum were closer, but ho hum. Perhaps we’ll win the lottery and move back to Norfolk.

Days start early in that household, so both nights we all crawled off to bed at about 21:30, and slept like things that slept, in a sleeping sort of way.

In other news, we have booked tickets to see The Blue Nile in Dublin. I haven’t been to Dub for about 40 years (and perlmonger has never been), despite visiting about 3-4 times a year before that, as my mother was born there, and my grandmother lived in Belgrave Road, Monkstown. Really looking forward to it, but seething at the Ryanair site, whose headline prices were £3.99 out and £0.99 back (!), but still ended up as over 85 quid when I got to the checkout. Still, it’ll be lovely to go back, and TBN is a grand excuse!

looking for beta testers

I’m working on a photo-diet project – basically you upload a photograph of what you eat, whenever you eat it, so you can review how sensibly (or not!) you’re eating.

I will shortly be in a position to require more beta testers, so if anyone’s interested please comment here.

been a while since I did this …

Sitting up in the study in the evening, writing code – not for paying customers, but for the new photodiet project thing I’m doing (coming soon, hopefully).

However, I think it’s time to give up and go to bed, as I’ve just had an error message that says:

ColdFusion cannot determine the line of the template that caused this error.

Which means it’s comprehensively borked; neither perlmonger or I have ever seen *that* one before …

[Dear ColdFusion.
It's line 117.

No Love
Me].

Snapped the first thing to hand and, as usual, the pix are of cats. Here’s Bada keeping Pete onside. As if he wasn’t already.
