boo to paper(werk)

I loathe and detest doing the accounts, and generally leave them till way too late. But perlmonger would be even worse at it than I am …

however, I have today posted the VAT return and cheque – *on time* – and furthermore, I have done the figures for the P11D, signed the forms, and sent them, with a small cheque for Her Majesty’s Bloodsuckers, *one whole week* before they need to be in to the Robinue.

go me, I think. Off for a lie down now.

oh go on, then

everyone else is doing it :)

well, I suppose it’s a start

West Midlands Police is dismantling ten speed cameras and removing film from another 50 after the first official admission that badly positioned devices could undermine road safety.

value for money?

“The Royal Family cost Britons £36.7m last year, equivalent to 61p per taxpayer, figures show.”

are they worth it?

it’s a question of *standards*

I urge you all to go and vote for the preservation of the apostrophe on the BBC site.

you may be seeing less of me in future

inspired by a friend of mine, who has lost 3 stone, I decided it was finally time to do something about my weight.

I’m not actually dieting, insofar as I’m not following Atkins or GI or low fat or any such thing. I’m just thinking about what I eat, eating much more slowly, eating only when hungry, cutting down (but not out!) the alcohol, and drinking *lots* of water. I’m eating pretty much what I want, but less of it (it’s the Paul McKenna approach, loosely).

June 4th – 12 st 5 lbs (173 lbs)
June 21st – 11 st 12 lbs (166lbs)

so – half a stone in 17 days. I’m well chuffed. A small w00t is in order, I think, and possibly even a rar!.

I shall continue to chart my progress, if anyone is interested. Or even if they’re not, as it’s a useful aide memoire for me.

fun!

my evening meal (an occasional series)

too hot to stand in front of the cooker tonight*. So:

  1. finely chop a shallot, some fresh coriander and a red chili. Combine this with 1lb of Dexter mince, together with some sel gris. Shape into vaguely hamburger-shaped shapes
  2. in a bowl, combine a can of chick peas, some chopped fresh mint, diced cucumber, finely chopped spring onions, some cold cooked potatoes from the fridge, and grated carrot. Make a dressing with walnut oil, white wine vinegar and a splash of shoyu and toss it about a bit
  3. *get perlmonger to stand in front of a very hot ribbed cast iron pan and cook the burgers
  4. sprinkle the salad with sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, which have been dry fried, then tossed in a little tamari
  5. eat in front of When Harry Met Sally which – astonishingly – perlmonger had never seen.

a perfect way to spend a hot summer evening.

was nice. We try to avoid supermarkets these days, so we pottered over to the posh end of Bedminster and bought fruit and veg at the greengrocer, plus some bits and pieces from the health shop (chick peas, risotto rice, can’t remember what else), nipped into Aldi for a look and some waffer thin chickie! for the Tribe. Also took the FTO through the carwash – wish somebody would buy the bloody thing; going to put it on eBay today.

came home and had some nibblings of grapes, fresh peas (for perlmonger) for “lunch”, then trundled down to Clevedon to the nice deli to buy some cheese, then ambled down tothe sea front and had an ice cream. Managed not to drop any in my camera.

in the evening, we watched last week’s Dr Who again, and then the final episode. Wah and wail – I *will* miss Mr Ecclestone :(

now we are melting, and the cats are slumped all over the house. I am not built for these temperatures – somebody make it stop, please.
