codepope helpfully suggested that I offer some cut’n'paste code for the Tsunami image I posted here. Very sensible idea, I thought – so here it is.
feel free to pass it on – in fact, *please* pass it on.

if you use this, please put a link back to my journal, and encourage people to pass it on – thanks. (The link is so they know they *can* pass it on, and can get the code easily!)
please help yourself to the image if you need it. The URL is:

or just link to it if you have nowhere to host it yourself.

our Christmas was nice – quiet, peaceful, with good company and good food. Others haven’t been so lucky.
one friend lost a member of his family on Boxing Day, completely unexpectedly. Another friend’s mother was rushed to hospital, and yet another dislocated a hip and was taken to casualty.
and then there’s the Indian Ocean tragedy – I had to turn the radio off this morning, I simply couldn’t bear to listen to any more.
if you have any spare cash, why not send it to one of the aid agencies, instead of going to the sales. We picked the Red Cross, but there’s plenty of others – see this post from haggisthesecond for a list of charities.
perlmonger’s car is fixed – hurrah. And not too bad – about £300. Thanks are due to the garage who took it in, sorted the bits, and sorted the car in such short order. Drove home in a simply beautiful sunset.
new bit for the Dyson arrived – that’s quite impressive, given it came by post, and I only ordered it last Thursday. I have collected another cylinder full of cat hair from the living room rugs.
now must go and finish cleaning downstairs.
in true keeping with the time of year (and possibly in sympathy with brisingamen’s washing machine), perlmonger’s car decided that it would like Christmas off. And so unceremoniously dumped all its hydraulic fluid while he was out and about in Bristol yesterday. The AA chap was a hero, by all accounts, and there’s a faint chance it can be fixed before the weekend. We are a multi-car household, but the FTO is SORN’d, un-MOT’d and uninsured, the Moose is in darkest Wales waiting for some new turbo bits, so at the moment we are reliant on the MR2 – a lovely chap, but not tremendously good at carrying more than two people; this is slightly unfortunate, as we have to collect kalunina from Cardiff airport tomorrow afternoon, and she will be here for a week.
we are getting an AA rental car for 24 hours from tomorrow (see what I mean about the AA man? I’m sure that’s not quite how it’s meant to work), and I guess if the bits for the Xantia don’t arrive from Citroen, we’ll have to extend that rental.

You scored as alternative. You’re partially respected for being an individual in a conformist world yet others take you as a radical. You have no place in society because you choose not to belong there – you’re the luckiest of them all, even if your parents are completely ashamed of you. Just don’t take drugs ok?

A report in today’s Guardian covers a survey of UK attitudes and knowledge about AIDS/HIV. And it’s … astonishing, depressing, distressing.
Twenty-six per cent felt people had the right to know who in their community had HIV/Aids and 17% said they would worry if they knew their doctor had treated patients who were HIV positive.
amd there’s much more of the same. It makes me want to weep …
