right – we have to be at the airport at 6.30 tomorrow morning [scream]. My XP box is shut down, and this one is going down shortly. My word, but if anyone deserved a short break on the West coast of Ireland, it’s me and perlmonger.

we’re off to Rosleague Country Hotel near Letterfrack, in Co Galway. We have books, walking boots, and a *huge* need for some destressing. I do *not* have my Nikon D70 camera [sob], as the eBay seller messed me about something chronic, and I refused to complete the deal. So will have to press the trusty Canon G3 into play.

back late Monday night. Be good while we’re gone.

blimey – that’s two new clients for dynamic web sites acquired this week. One an Oxford college, which will look great on the portfolio (we don’t have a .ac.uk yet), and one in Switzerland – hope we can wangle a site visit! And two more potential ones, both looking reasonably good.

and after the horrors earlier this week, work wise, we shall be bloody glad to bugger off to Ireland tomorrow morning for a few days R&R, before we have to face actually *coding* all this work.

a quick scurry to PC Whirled at lunchtime for a lens cleaner, and I can play DVDs again.

hurrah!

guess what perlmonger and I will be watching this evening?

[edit]
waah … neither of the DVDs will read in this here Mac G4’s drive. So no sneaky preview. Will have to trundle downstairs and check it in the grown up player.

You’re One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest!
by Ken Kesey
You’re crazy. This has led people to attempt to confine you to a safe
place so that you don’t pose a danger to yourself or others. You feel like you pose a
great danger to the man (or maybe the woman) or whatever else is keeping you down. But
most of the time, you just end up being observed. Were you crazy before you were
confined?

oops

I have just ordered a Nikon D70 digital SLR.

I’ve been dithering about such a beast for ages, and have been this <> close to buying a Canon 300D since it came out. Then the Nikon arrived on the market, and I liked it better.

having made the decision, we went all round Bristol’s camera shops yesterday, and nobody had one. So I came home and rang a load of online retailers, but they all told me the same thing – none in the channel.

so I’ve taken a deep breath and clicked on a grey import one from eBay. Expect lots of photographs of Ireland’s west coast in 10 days or so :)

we have been Into Town – lord, but it’s vile on Saturday. Still, I have a new watch strap for my Victorinox watch, albeit sadly not a proper one, but a snazzy green leather one nonetheless. I bought the watch in L L Bean in Maine on our honeymoon in June 1999, so it’s not done badly.

as we went through the arcade, munching our Thorntons ice cream (lemon meringue and raspberry sorbet for me, vanilla and maple brazil for perlmonger), we noted that the Bristol Ticket Shop had tickets for Jools Holland in Queens Square in Bristol. We already have tickets to see him in November, but he’s always great at an open air gig, so we bought a brace.

now we’re considering whether we should go to the Trowbridge Village Pump Festival in July – and I think we will. Always worth going out to see the great Richard Thompson, as regular readers of this blog will recall :)

perlmonger informed me yesterday that:
